Counseling Deparment

The Counseling Department of the Puerto Rico Youth ChalleNGe Academy has as its main goal to look for the emotional stability of the cadet.  It will also provide support to the cadets through individual and group interventions so they can maintain a positive attitude to the process of ChalleNGe.  Workshops are given to develop skills in the "Life Coping Skills" area (Anger Management, Stress Management, Conflict Resolution, Goal Setting, etc.).  Once the cadet goes to the workshops we monitor them in their daily activities so we can see first hand that they are applying what they've learned.

A Vocational Interest evaluation is administered to each cadet.  This helps them to decide which path they should follow once they finish the residential phase.

We also include the parents in the process of change having them participate in a Parenting Skills Workshop.  This is a unique opportunity to enhance their skills as parents and get prepared for the arrival of their adolescent back home.

The Counseling Department counts with two licensed psychologist and a licensed social worker to comply with all the needs our cadets could have.
