Core Components
The Alabama National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Academy is designed around an intervention model built on eight core components needed for successful living. The eight core components of the intervention model focus on the holistic development of the participants. Much of a corpsmember's skill development process is based on deliberate experiential learning situations created by the staff. The eight core components and performance measures associated with each component are listed below.
Life Coping Skills...
Learn personal financial management, teamwork skills, anger management and drug and alcohol avoidance strategies.
Educational Excellence...
Increase grade levels in reading and mathematics, attain a GED or high school diploma and pursue higher education.
Responsible Citizenship...
Understand the civic responsibilities and the role of a positive citizen within the community.
Health, hygiene and Sex Education...
Understand nutrition basics, substance abuse awareness and positive personal relationships.
Job Skills Training...
Learn basic employment skills, resume writing, job interview techniques and career exploration.
Physical Fitness...
Component includes Intense physical training, team sports and the President`s Council on Physical Fitness Test.
Leadership and Followership...
Learn positive leadership and followership responsibilities and positive roles within social groups.
Community Involvement and Service Projects...
Give back to the community by performing a minimum of 40 hours of service to community.
