Suzy Elwell

I would like to commend the 2nd platoon staff, counselors, case managers, and all the staff of the Grizzly Youth Academy for their great work helping a cadet of Class 15 through the Post-Residential phase.  The cadet was spiraling down into his past life of drugs, unemployment and incarceration.   B

dlee3_column_sigWhen I wrote a piece two years ago on the Louisiana National Guard's Youth ChalleNGe Program, I was impressed to learn from the young cadets just how much being in the program meant to them and how it helped them to turn their lives around after they'd dropped out of school.

Oregon ChalleNGe pair show how to make the most of mentoring

By:  Lauren Bryar, NCI Staff Writer

Mike Nichols sounds like a proud parent when he informs mentor coordinator, Joel Garibay, of former ChalleNGe Cadet Ivan Snegirev's post graduation success. "Ivan is doing amazingly well… I am thrilled at what has happened in Ivan's life," Nichols writes.

Parents are the most vocal and eloquent about the positive results that ChalleNGe has produced in their children's lives.   Below are just a few of the many stories from pleased parents.  If you are a proud ChalleNGe parent, email us your story today: info@ngycp.org

Michael Hargis

My son, Michael Hargis, graduated from the Pryor, Oklahoma ChalleNGe campus in December of 2005.  Before he went to the Thunderbird Youth Academy he was not a loud, unruly teenager. He was quite the opposite– very quiet and reserved.  Quiet doesn't always equate with good behavior, though.  He was very smart, but got behind in school because he simply would not go.  The biggest problem was just the lack of direction in his life.

Becca Beck

Cadet Brent RolandIn November 2005, my son Brent was bouncing from house to house without any idea where his life was going. Nobody could get through to him and he chose not to live by any rules or boundaries.
