Last weekend the cadets sponsored an Academy Haunted House in the armory.  Donations were accepted for the student fund and about $150 was raised.

The WYA received a visit from Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed last Friday.  The Secretary spoke to the cadets about the importance of community service and accompanied two squads from 3rd Platoon on a community service project to Goodwill.

Last Saturday, 62 cadets participated in the Gig Harbor “Monster Dash”.  All cadets completed the 8km (5 mile) course!  All finishers will receive a long sleeve race shirt.  Today, all cadets who competed are wearing their “race numbers” on their sweatshirts.  We are very proud of their accomplishment.

On Thursday, 5 November, the cadets will be departing the WYA at 1700 for their class camping trip.  McChord AFB will be hosting the cadets.  The cadre have planned a full slate of activities to occupy the time until return to the WYA on Sunday, 8 November.  All activities will be tied back to the core eight components.  Platoons WILL NOT be making phone calls on Friday or Saturday.   Some cadets will be allowed to call on Sunday after return to the WYA, but it will be difficult to accomplish calls for all cadets.

Reminder, mark your calendars for Thanksgiving break schedule.  Cadets will be released from Pendergast Park at 1200 on Wednesday (25 November) and due back between 1200-1400 on Monday (30 November).  Exact return times for each platoon will be announced later.

H1Ni flu information has been mailed to parents of 16 & 17 year old cadets for approval/rejection.  The information is also available on the webpage.  Please complete the forms and return to the WYA.  We have ordered 180 doses of the vaccine for staff and cadets.

Respectfully,  Bill
