The mission of the Virginia National Guard Commonwealth ChalleNGe Program is to intervene in the lives of at-risk youth by providing the values, skills, education, and self-discipline needed to produce responsible, productive citizens, and to do so in a highly disciplined atmosphere.

Eligibility

In order to enroll in Virginia Commonwealth ChalleNGe Academy, prospective cadets must meet all of the following requirements:


  • Be a  United States citizen or legal resident and a resident of Virginia
  • Be 16, 17, 18 or 19 years of age on the first day of admission
  • A high school drop-out or at risk of dropping out (behind in credits, truancy, etc.)
  • Drug Free:  Students will be drug tested. 
  • No felony convictions/charges, awaiting trial, or currently in trial proceedings
  • Physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of completing the program
  • Volunteer to attend...... this is not an alternative sentencing program
  • Committed to making a change in their life
  • Be sponsored by a prospective mentor (we do not provide mentors)

    A mandatory drug screen will be conducted on opening day.  Applicants may not enter the Hard Core ChalleNGe Phase if they test positive for the presence of illegal drugs.
