CLASS 29’S CADET PHILLIP SOWERS HONORED

On September 28, 2008 Cadet Phillip Sowers was going on work detail at the NAS Oceana Commissary with his platoon. When walking toward the front door of the commissary he happened to look down and he noticed some money lying on the ground. At the same time he noticed a customer looking around for something. He asked the customer if she had dropped something and the customer replied yes. He then asked the customer if it was money and the answer was again yes. She had just come from the ATM machine and dropped the money that she had received. Cadet Sowers returned the money to her and refused the cash gift from the customer.

Cadet Sowers told the customer that he is with the Commonwealth ChalleNGe Academy and he has learned about integrity and responsibility. In recognition of his outstanding action he has been given a Letter of Recognition and a commemorative coin from Commonwealth ChalleNGe Director Col Thomas Early.
