The mission of the Virginia National Guard Commonwealth ChalleNGe Program is to intervene in the lives of at-risk youth by providing the values, skills, education, and self-discipline needed to produce responsible, productive citizens, and to do so in a highly disciplined atmosphere.

Parent Association

Purpose: To create state and national interest in the Commonwealth ChalleNGe Program, to provide moral and financial support to the Program and to cooperate with the Program Director and the Adjutant General of the Virginia National Guard in carrying out the Program.

History: The Commonwealth ChalleNGe Parent Association has been in existence since late 2003. The current membership is in excess of 200 parents, mentors and friends of ChalleNGe. There is a Board of Directors consisting of the Association Officers and the Program Director, Deputy Director and Post Residential Coordinator who are ex-officio members of the board.

The association became a Non Profit Corporation in the spring of 2005 and as of 24 January 2006 is a 501c3 organization.

Activities:

Fund Raising: The association conducts fund raising activities for each ChalleNGe Class. Under the leadership of the Director of Fund Raising, car washes, raffles, Home Interior Sales and Fund Solicitation efforts have provided the majority of funds raised. New ideas are always needed and welcomed. A primary goal of fund raising is to fund scholarships.

Hospitality: The association provides refreshments for parents during intake as well as synergistic support. Refreshments for graduation and other appropriate occasions are also provided.
Cadet Support: The association provides support to needy cadets as indicated by the ChalleNGe Staff.

Scholarship Program: The association administers the scholarship program and the ChalleNGe Staff selects recipients.
ChalleNGe Graduates can apply to receive assistance if they are going on to college or a trade/technical school. Information is available from all Parent Association Officers or you can download the Scholarship Application.
