The mission of the Virginia National Guard Commonwealth ChalleNGe Program is to intervene in the lives of at-risk youth by providing the values, skills, education, and self-discipline needed to produce responsible, productive citizens, and to do so in a highly disciplined atmosphere.

Cadet

WHAT IS REQUIRED OF THE CADET?

  • Maintain weekly communication with his/her mentor.
  • The cadet keeps appointments with the mentor and responds and initiates telephone calls or letters to and from the mentor.
  • Discusses his/her Life Plan with the mentor and strives to meet the goals of the plan.
  • The cadet seeks the help of the mentor when needed in achieving the goals of the plan.
  • Communicates with the mentor on a weekly basis.
  • Participates in off-site visits with the mentor. May invite the mentor to his/her house to meet his parents/guardians.
  • Performs community service projects with the mentor before graduation.
  • Commits to stay drug-free and employed or in school while in theChalleNGe Program for at least one year after graduation
