The mission of the Virginia National Guard Commonwealth ChalleNGe Program is to intervene in the lives of at-risk youth by providing the values, skills, education, and self-discipline needed to produce responsible, productive citizens, and to do so in a highly disciplined atmosphere.

Activities & Training

A normal weekday schedule consists of the following activities: physical training, personal hygiene, dormitory maintenance, meals, classes, work projects, team sports, study hall, personal time, and sleep.

0530-0645:   Wake up, Physical Training, Personal Hygiene
0700-0800:   Breakfast
0830-1145:   Classroom Instruction,Vocational Training, Work    Projects
1145-1300:   Lunch
1300-1610:   Classroom Instruction, Vocational Training, Work Projects
1600-1700:   Athletics, Group Projects
1700-1800:   Evening Meal
1800-1900:   Vocational Training/ Study
1900-2030:   Personal Hygiene, Quiet time
2130:           Lights Out

Weekend schedules begin an hour later and allow cadets more free time. Weekend activities can include: adventure training, field trips, community service, inspections, and religious services.

Virginia ChalleNGe follows a rigid training schedule throughout the residential phase of the  program. Our training schedule is optimized to provide the maximum amount of training in the residential phase and incorporates all eight core components of the ChalleNGe model.
