Camp of the eight (8) Components in Vieques

During the month of August ( Monday the third 3^rd to Saturday the eight 8^th)2009 the students of the P.R. Y.C.A. were performing  their camp of the eight (8) components in the municipality of Vieques. The camp was conducted in Sun Bay Beach where different activities were carried out in order to fulfill the academic and community service components.

Among the activities conducted during this month were interpretative walks, kayak visits to mangrove ecosystems, snorkeling in coral reefs and visits to the Bioluminescent Bay. Students received lectures on sea turtles and visited places of historical interest as the Trust of Conservation and History of Vieques and the Fortin Conde de Mirasol. Among the recreational activities were the basketball tournament and the softball game.

As part of the community service the students cleaned Sun Bay Beach, visited schools where they made task as cleaning, painting, and beautification of the surroundings in preparation to the new school year. In addition, a campaign with posters with environmental messages were placed in both the schools and the beach.
