The reason Ben decided to come to Thunderbird was because he was bored in public school. He wasn’t in trouble and attending school didn’t seem to be the problem, he went to school right up until day 1 at TYA. He just wasn’t challenged enough and did not apply himself to do the class work. When we found out that he only had 9 credits his junior year, we started looking at alternatives and decided on TYA.
Once in a life time something happens that totally changes the course of one’s life, and that is how it was with my son. We adopted him when he was only 6 years old. The first years of his life were very devastating to him, as one counselor said “we are working with damaged goods and therefore we do not see much of a future for him.” The growing up years was very difficult for us as well as for him, as he could not seem to let go of his anger.
An update on Justin Garrison. I am his mentor. He graduated at 16-1/2 years of age from TYA in Dec 2004. Justin enlisted in the U.S. Army on his 17th Birthday in July 2005. He completed Infantry Basic and Advanced training on 1 Dec 2005 at Fort Benning.
This is a story about choices. Although everyone's circumstances are different, there is one thing they all have in common and that is the God-given power of choice. We often wonder why one person's outcome is so different than another person's of the same circumstance. I personally believe that this is the direct result of the choices that each individual makes.
Hi, I graduated with class 1-93 and when I went home from school life looked the same. I had the same mom, the same sister, the same unorganized and disfunctional life. I was different though.
