Health Services...We need your help
It is the mission of Health Services to keep your cadet healthy and moving throughout the program. Your honesty and cooperation is a must for the Academy to care for all cadets.
- Medical Expenses: Parents/Guardians are financially responsible for ALL medical expenses while cadet is attending TYA.
- Medical Appointments: DO NOT make medical appointments before contacting Health Services. Routine medical, dental and eye check-ups should be done before entering TYA, during pass/leave, or after graduation. All essential medical (Doctor, Dental & Eye) appointments must be arranged through Health Services. Cadets are not allowed to miss any required activity.
- Health Insurance: The insurance or CDIB cards will be used when possible. Please understand if your insurance does not apply in our area, it is up to you to choose a doctor in Pryor that is covered by your insurance OR contact your doctor and tell them that Thunderbird may call to request a referral in the event your cadet requires medical attention.
- Medical Situations: TELL US if your youth has had any type of surgery, been in the hospital or involved an accident of any kind. Make certain that any type of support or brace (due to previous bone or muscle injuries) is with the cadet on IN-PROCESSING DAY.
Medications – Over-The-Counter (OTC) & Prescribed:
- DO NOT suddenly stop routine medication your cadet is currently taking for fear of disapproval/non-acceptance.
- Bring at least one month supply of any medications currently being taken on a routine basis whether prescription or OTC.
- ALL medications must be properly labeled with cadet’s name and correct directions. Any medications dispensed in a box (inhalers, creams, etc.) must have a label placed on the item as well as the box.
- Medication refills may be mailed to the Academy to the attention of Health Services or Nurse.
- Mark your calendar for the next time you need to request a refill on medications. Cadets are subject to dis-enrollment if they are without routine medicines for more than five days.
- EXPIRED MEDICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact Health Services by email or phone - (918) 824-4801.
