Seeking Mentors

Seeking Mentors

Thunderbird Youth Academy is always seeking caring individuals who want to support our youth.  The mentor relationship with a TYA Cadet can be the most important contact he/she may have while attending the Academy and continue for 12-months after graduation.

To become a Mentor you must meet the following criteria:

  • Same gender as youth;
  • At least 21 years of age;
  • Reside within a reasonable distance of the cadet;
  • Not be a member of the family, nor a resident in the same household as the cadet;
  • Agree to a criminal background check.

The overall expectations are:

  • Attend training provided by the program.
  • Begin building a relationship with the cadet during the Residential phase.
  • Continue the mentor-mentee relationship through visits, mail or email, and telephone during the Post-Residential phase.
  • Submit a monthly progress report to the ChalleNGe program.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor for one of TYA's fine cadets, please fill out an application.
