Cadets are not required to pay tuition. The course is free to those accepted, with the exception of personal items.

What is the age requirement for cadets?
Applicants must be between 16 and 18 years old on the start date.

Do I have to have a mentor?
Yes. All cadets must have a mentor. The mentor must same sex as the cadet. A completed mentor application must completed as soon as possible. All prospective mentors must have a criminal background check once the student has been accepted. Mentor training is usually done at the Academy. If the mentor cannot make the training, please call to see when you can schedule an appointment.

When can cadets have visitors?
No visitation is allowed, except on family day or other prescribed times. Letter writing is highly encouraged during the Pre-ChalleNGe phase- preferably in a positive, supportive manner.

Am I allowed to bring Jewelry?
Watch?Yes.
Radio? No.
Cell phone?No, cadets will earn phone privileges during the residential phase with limited number of minutes per call.
Video games? No.
Photos? Yes, limited number of appropriate photos is permitted.

Do I need to cut my hair short?
Yes, if you are a male applicant, you will have your hair cut to military standards. If you are female, hair may be worn up according to standards or cut above the shoulder.
Is clothing issued, or do I need to purchase clothing?
Clothing (BDU pants, coat, boots, beret, gloves, stocking cap, PT attire, and canteen and belt is issued. Applicants will need to purchase their own undergarments and running shoes that are at least 90% white. (A complete list of approved items will be issued to the applicant upon their acceptance to the program.)

Can male and female cadets communicate?
NO! Any form of fraternization (letter writing, flirtatious behavior) is forbidden and could get the cadet discharged from the academy. Cadets are here to concentrate on their educational needs, not dating.

Can I get a copy of my transcript, if lost?
In order to get your GED transcript, please send a request to the address below. Be sure to include your social security number, date of birth, where you would like it sent to and your signature.

Do I need to send any money during their stay?
Only five dollars in case of need of haircut the first day.
No the cadets need no money they get paid every two weeks for them to buy toilet articles that need to be replaced. Fliers will be given to cadets to take home when it's time to purchase Graduation rings (option, between cadet and parent).

What happens after I graduate from the Academy?
You will return home to your community and start the process of beginning your adult life. Post Resident Cadets (PRCs) are expected to find employment, enter vocational schools, or enroll in Junior College. You are also required to maintain contact with your assigned mentor.

What can I do if my child has a birthday while in the Academy? If your child has a birthday while in the Academy, once a month we celebrate by making a cake for all who is having a birthday that month and place their name on a birthday board. Please just send them a card only.
