About us

The Montana Youth ChalleNGe Academy (MYCA) opened its doors September 1, 1999.  We are currently in our twenty-first class, and commencement is scheduled for December 19, 2009!   We now have 1,404  MYCA graduates to date and are looking foward to many many more walking across that stage!!

MYCA is sponsored by the National Guard and the State of Montana. That is why there is no cost to you.

The first two weeks are known as our Pre-ChalleNGe Phase, and is held in Dillon, MT.  We then transition into our Residential Phase for the next five months. This takes place on the campus of the University of Montana - Western, in Dillon, Montana.

The final phase of our Academy is crucial, and is the backbone of ChalleNGe. This is our Post Residential (Mentoring) Phase. The Post Residential (PR) Phase runs for one full year, beginning two months prior to graduation from the Residential Phase.

We are a hundred-bed Academy and currently have forty-two full time staff members. Our Academy is one of thirty-three programs located around the country and one in Puerto Rico. Each program caters to that state's at-risk youth.
